Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure in which a woman’s breast is enlarged and made firmer. This is one of the most popular operations.

Currently, there are basically two techniques which vary according to the material used: enlargement with silicone implants or enlargement using the patients own fat (see section autologous lipofilling). Augmentation by implants consists of a simple operation by means of a small incision through which the implant is introduced.

In order to insert and position the implant, a very small incision is made and in most cases the resulting scar is almost imperceptible.

The incisions can be made in the sulcus of the breast (just below the breast), on the lower edge of the areola or in the armpit. The incision is determined by the patient’s type of breast or by her preference.

Through this opening, the surgeon creates a cavity into which the implant is placed, directly below the breast tissue or pectoral muscle.

There are different types of implants but, to summarize, the main types of silicone implants of high cohesiveness gel we work with can be classified by their shape:

– Round implants.
– Anatomical implants (tear shaped)

Each type of implants has its own indications.
The implants we work with in MR Plastic Surgery comply with all European Union standards and have passed the strictest safety controls. We have obtained very satisfactory results with their use.

We disagree totally with the use of tools, both computerized and otherwise, which attempt to predict the results of the procedure. Plastic surgery is accompanied by many variables and it is impossible to make and accurate prediction of the patient’s appearance depending on the use of one or other implant. Plastic surgery is an art that cannot be calculated by mathematical formulae. Only an experienced professional assessment can guide the patient in the implant selection.

This type of surgery is carried out under general anaesthesia. The operation takes about two hours and the results are immediately visible. The patient is discharged in less than 24 hours and requires drains and special support bandages for the first 24-48 hours.

A breast enlargement patient is able to return to work after a few days, depending on the activity involved.
